Gramatik‘s first album, Beatz & Pieces Vol. 1, came out July 12 on Pretty Lights’ label, and in this case, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. When I think Pretty Lights, I think of something that is pretty safe and flexible to listen to, something I wouldn’t hesitate to put on for any crowd, regardless of occasion, because Pretty Lights tends to be a crowd pleaser, or at the very least a crowd appeaser. Gramatik’s album differs from Pretty Lights in that it’s probably less “dubsteppy” and further towards the funk/downtempo side of the spectrum, sampling hip hop beats but adding live instrumentation as well. Basically, if you like Pretty Lights, you’ll probably like this.
Like the calmer side of Pretty Lights’ catalogue, Gramatik’s album is nice to listen to whether you want to actually stop and listen to the music or just let it play in the background. It’s not a challenging album by any means, but it’s pleasant, and sometimes that’s what you need. “The reason I started adding live instruments is because I felt that classic hip-hop beats without vocals lose me after two minutes. I want to keep the listener through the whole track.” Indeed, Gramatik’s vocal samples add a new layer of interest to the tracks, but they don’t distract too much from the instrumentals and beats that are the true focus.

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars' 2nd studio album,Rise & Shine, was released March 23, 2010 byCumbancha. The disc was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos (Michelle Shocked, Faith No More, Angelique Kidjo, Rickie Lee Jones, Susan Tedeschi). The CD was recorded at Piety Street studio in New Orleans with local musiciansTrombone Shorty, Washboard Chaz andBonerama all guesting on the album.
Formed in a refugee camp during Sierra Leone's civil war, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars' incredible story is documented in the award winning, compelling and emotionally-driven film,"Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars." Initial support for the film came from executive producers Steve Bing and Shelley Lazar as well as Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, andAngelina Jolie. The resulting studio album,Living Like A Refugee (Anti Records 2006), is one of the most acclaimed world music releases of the past few years, garnering the band international acclaim and high profile fans including Aerosmith, who the All Stars collaborated with in concert and in the studio.
SLRAS has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show; CNN International; PBS's P.O.V. Series and CBS Sunday Morning as well as NPR's World Café and a special piece with vocalist Black Nature on MTV's Cause Effect.

The Slackers are a classic American band that is equal parts grit and grace.
Their slow rise against the odds is a story in perseverance and a belief in their musical vision,

While they have been influenced, and even personally taught by Jamaican ska/reggae originators,
like the Skatalites and the Upsetters (Original backing band for the Wailers),
the band sees its music as an extension of the traditions of the United States.
This band is equally appreciative of old blues, country, 60s soul, rock,
and Rnb as it is of reggae, rocksteady, dub, and Ska.
It is as if the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds had grown up on Bob Marley as well as Muddy Waters.

Terrakota
From TerraKota flourishes a natural music deep rooted in the Black continent, inspired by the Saharan, Caribbean, Hindu and the Western sounds that rise under the Jamaican sun. In most cases, African music is simply the expression of life through sounds in which the musician beyond imitating the sounds of nature, using natural musical instruments, also reverses this process using the sounds of nature in its music. This is TerraKota`s motive; they use African traditional and popular harmonies and rhythms, playing various instruments from all over the world, further to the usual Western instruments such as bass, guitar and drums.
Los Saskinistas
The band "Los Saskinistas" is from Kavala. In 2008 they released their first independent album.They play a mix of rock n roll and blues with elements of reggae and swing.
Skary Face
Skary Face created as an idea in late 2009 by George Barrels and Rafailaki Tasia. 2 months later with the drummer J.C. Dorian and bassist Argi they created a band unique in Xanthi.
They play Ska / reggae / punk.

Morning
Ramos Gin Fizz
Like gumbo and gratuitous boob flashing, the exquisite Ramos Gin Fizz is one of New Orleans’ gifts to the world. Henry Ramos invented the frothy sensation at his Imperial Cabinet Saloon, in the 1880s. Huey Long couldn’t live without them, and brought a bartender to New York to teach the Yankee boys to make his drink proper. During the Carnival of 1915, to meet demand, Ramos put 32 “shaker boys” behind the bar. There’s a lot of ingredients involved, and a Jerry Lee Lewis amount of shaking (12 minutes was the old standard). In other words: Don’t order six of them during a busy brunch, and tip well.
Recipe:
1 ½ oz Bluecoat gin (or gin of your choice)
1 egg white
½ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz fresh lime juice
1 oz simple syrup
2 drops of orange flower water
2 oz cream
Soda water
In a mixing glass, combine egg, juices, flower water, simple syrup, and cream. Shake without ice to emulsify the egg. Add gin and ice. Shake again, vigorously. Strain into a Collins glass (no ice) and top with soda water. Whip gently with straw or bar spoon to encourage the foam.
Variation: add two drops of vanilla extract

Hemingway's Cocktail Recipe: Death in the Afternoon
"Pour one jigger absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced Champagne until it attains
the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly." Ernest Hemingway
Unless you're a champion drinker like Hemingway was,
it is probably not wise to drink the number of these drinks he prescribes.
Real Absinthe is at least 110 proof.
You could substitute Pernod or Ricard, or any pastis for the absinthe.
Night
Campari Smash
The appealing contrast between the tangy bitterness of the Campari and the sweetness of the limoncello make this Siegal original a perfect summer refresher.
The Goods:
4 lemon wedges, seeds removed if possible1 1/4 ounces Campari3/4 ounces limoncello
Muddle the lemons in a shaker. Add Campari and limoncello. Shake lightly. Serve in a rocks glass.
